HDTS 2013 Call for Proposals - A Quick Update!

Thanks so much to everyone who participated in our HDTS 2013 open call for proposals!  We received far more proposals than we anticipated, and were completely blown away by all of the wonderful ideas.  The process is taking a little longer than we had expected, but we will be in touch shortly regarding our selections for the event this fall.  All applicants will be notified.  Thanks so much for your patience!

Visit A-Z West and the A-Z Enterprise, where steward Patrick Woody will lead you on an intimate tour of the house, studio, Wagon Station Encampment, Homestead Cabin, Regenerating Field, and shipping container compound.

A-Z West is located on thirty-five acres in the California high desert next to Joshua Tree National Park.  Since 2000 the grounds have been ever evolving as Andrea Zittel's test site for designs for living, where all aspects of day-to-day living—home furniture, clothing, and food all become the sites of investigation in an ongoing endeavor to better understand human nature and the social construction of needs.

258 TOTAL PICTURE CONTROL, an exhibition of new works derived from books in the Joshua Tree Branch, is on view at the Von Tundra Outpost (next door to the HDTS HQ and BKB Ceramics at 6460 Veterans Way in Downtown Joshua Tree) from March 9–31, 2013.  Please join us Saturday, March 9th, 5-8PM for the opening of the exhibition, featuring:

The celebration includes a musical performance by Scott Pinkmountain, playing Gary and Arthur, a new song drawn from 5 books in the Joshua Tree Branch, at 5:30PM.

Throughout the evening Julie Tolentino will be offering an ACTION FOR PERFORMANCE at the Table of the Divine Immortal Fakery & Vulgar Smoke Apothecary, inspired by The Layman's Guide to Acupuncture, 1972, by Toshio Manaka, M.D.

The exhibition also includes Three film submissions to library and support system for promotional materials, a series of film screenings, selected by Women in the spirit of the Reanimation Library.  The New Architecture and the London Zoo, 1936, by Laszlo Moholy-Nagy (16 min) screens Wednesday, March 13thDisgraced Monuments, 1992, by Mark Lewis & Laura Mulvey (50 min) screens Wednesday, March 20thRuthless People, 1986, by Jim Abrahams (93 min) screens Wednesday, March 27th.  (Ruthless People has been postponed, date TBA–sorry for the inconvenience!)  All screenings will take place in the outdoor courtyard behind the HDTS HQ at 7PM.
